Marie Laveau was a real person - born in New Orleans around 1801, died there in 1881. She was a free woman of color who became the most powerful figure in New Orleans Voodoo during the 19th century, sought out by the wealthy, the desperate, and the powerful for readings, works, and counsel. Her name became a title: the Voodoo Queen. The oracle in her name draws from New Orleans Voodoo tradition - its Catholic-African synthesis, its loa (spirit intermediaries), its practical relationship to love, protection, money, and justice.

How it works

State your situation - what you're seeking, what you need clarity on, or what you want worked in your favor. The oracle draws a message in Marie Laveau's tradition: a direct piece of counsel, a loa whose domain touches your situation, a root or botanical associated with your request, and the traditional working suggested by New Orleans practice for circumstances like yours.

Understanding your result

The reading gives you four elements: the counsel (plain-spoken, in the tradition of Marie Laveau's documented advice - direct, unsentimentalized), the loa whose energy is relevant (Erzulie Freda for love and beauty, Papa Legba for crossroads and communication, Maman Brigitte for the dead and medicine, Baron Samedi for endings and resurrection, Ogou for justice and conflict), the associated botanical or working material, and a practical suggestion drawn from New Orleans folk practice. The reading doesn't romanticize or sanitize the tradition.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an authentic Voodoo practice?

The oracle draws from documented New Orleans Voodoo tradition and historical records of Marie Laveau's practice. It's an educational and reflective tool, not initiation into a closed practice. New Orleans Voodoo has always had a public-facing dimension; Marie Laveau herself served clients who came to her.

Do I need to be initiated or follow a Voodoo tradition to use this?

No. The oracle is designed for anyone curious about this tradition or seeking the kind of practical, unsentimental counsel associated with Marie Laveau's historical reputation.

Is this disrespectful to the tradition or to Marie Laveau?

We've worked to represent the tradition accurately and respectfully, with historical context. Marie Laveau served paying clients from all backgrounds throughout her life - the oracle is in that spirit.

Can this oracle actually bring about what I'm asking for?

We offer this for self-reflection and entertainment. Traditional Voodoo workings are practices, not guarantees. The oracle gives you a perspective and a direction - what you do with it is yours.
